19th October

Today is the last day of this half-term, tomorrow is a teacher day. We have had a busy half-term and we continue to appreciate parent’s support.

We hope everyone has a lovely half-term break and that we can all come back to school on 30th October ready for the run up to Christmas, which is always lovely in school.

Art and DT

Please can ALL JUNIORS bring an old over-sized T-Shirt or shirt to use and keep in school permanently for art and DT sessions. Over the next couple of weeks, the juniors will be working with clay. It needs to fit over their school uniform so must be baggy, we are just trying to protect school uniform!

Infant reading volunteers

As a school, we are committed to helping children develop their reading skills and frequent practise really helps with this. We are looking for reading volunteers to come and listen to our Infants read, any day after 2pm would be wonderful! Please get in touch if you can help 😊

Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime

We are having a whole school trip to The Grand theatre at Lancaster to watch the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime at 10am on Wednesday 13th December. The cost of this trip will be £5, please pay via School money.

BBC Radio 2 – 500 words competition

500 Words, the UK’s most successful children’s writing competition has now opened for submissions and will run till Friday 10 November.

Since the competition was first launched in 2011 by Chris Evans on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, it has received over one million stories from children throughout the UK.

This year, the two age categories will be 5-7 year-olds and 8-11 year-olds.

Children of all abilities are encouraged to use their creativity and imagination to write a story they would love to read without the pressure of having to worry about spelling, punctuation and grammar.

50 finalists, along with their parents or carers, will be invited to attend a grand final next February at Buckingham Palace!

All the finalists will receive a £20 National Book Token and their stories will be recorded and published on our website. The winners in each category will receive an array of prizes including a bundle of books and be featured in a special 500 Word programme with The One Show, on World Book Day on 7 March 2024.

Go to www.bbc.co.uk/500words for more details on how to enter and good luck!
