Strike Day – Wednesday 5th July

At Hornby, the majority of teaching staff are members of the NEU.

The union has called for strikes over the issue of pay as well as recruitment and retention of staff. There are further issues around recent unfunded pay rises which have taken money away from our school budget and made it more difficult to provide for your children in both resourcing and staffing.

On this occasion, the staff have informed me that they will be taking strike action on 5th July and thus, school will be closed on that day.

We will be open as usual on Friday 7th July.

I understand that this may cause a great deal of frustration and inconvenience for parents and carers; however, I am hopeful that you will understand the reasons for this decision and I would like to thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Art Workshops

On Monday and Tuesday this week we will be welcoming the local artist Kerry Howarth to come and work with the children in the hall to create a collaborative display based on the countryside. The children will be using printing and layering techniques to create patterns and pictures. They will be making felt and creating flowers and making butterflies and bumblebees with willow, tissue paper and old socks.

Please could we ask for donations of egg boxes, black wool, electrical tape and small black socks to be brought in on Monday for their creations, we can’t wait to see the finished piece.

Huge thanks to the PTA for funding these special days.

Library Books

Please can ALL library books be returned to school ASAP then we can make sure we have all books ready for the new school year.
