Class News.

Infants

In Infants this week, Reception children have been acting out and planning their own story based on the Selfish Crocodile. They have also been exploring the composition of number 10 and looking at different ways the numbers 1-10 can be represented. They have been finding out what the Coral Reef is like and using different painting, printing and collage skills to create their own Coral Reef artwork.

Years 1 and 2 have been writing a recount of Horrid Henry’s School Trip. They included one or two shocking moments. They have been identifying and investigating 2d and 3d shapes – using resources to make shapes whilst thinking about their properties. They have been exploring Scotland and thinking about landscapes, national symbols and St Andrew. They have responded with artwork – producing cartoon strips, printed kilt patterns and tissue paper collages.

Juniors

Lower – Year 3/4

What lovely weather we have had this week, we have enjoyed learning outside as much as possible.  Looking around the playground on Monday for acute and obtuse angles, as well as right angles.  It was tricky to start with but the children got the hang of it!  We have been learning about different lines, horizontal and vertical, perpendicular and parallel and how we can find these in shapes and using lines to find symmetry in 2D shapes.  We have been reading more of our new book, ‘Tar Beach’.  Set in New York and originally written on a quilt, the story has links to our slavery topic in History and tells a tale of a girl who flys over the city of New York dreaming of freedom for herself and her family.  We watched footage of a drone flying over New York at night and looked more closely at things we would see.  The children did some lovely descriptive writing using noun phrases and their senses about what they could see, hear etc.  James’ was especially good, hence his certificate this week.  In Science, we looked more closely at a flower and labelled the different parts, this was a revisit for the Year 4’s of work we did in Year 3 but it was good to recap and go and look at plants in our lovely garden and see what we could find and identify in real life.
