Infants
In Infants this week, Reception have been exploring the events of the Hideosaurus dinosaur story and planning ideas to write their own simple stories next week. Year 1 have been trying to retell the hungry caterpillar story, adding imaginative details. In Maths, they have been exploring symmetry and number bonds to 20.
In topic work we have been making dinosaur finger puppets from felt, inventing new dinosaur names and making Happy Birthday cards for the church to celebrate Pentecost Sunday. Years 1 and 2 have begun to write their own diaries in the style of Mary Anning to show they understand ‘why’ some things happened in the past and ‘why’ she is famous.

Juniors
Lower – Year 3/4
In Lower juniors, we have had a lovely week, we have been doing lots of work on plastic pollution and the effects on our environment. We have looked at our actions and the changes we can make to help our environment. In maths the Year 3s have been looking at capacity and mass and the Year 4s have been working on hundredths and fractions.
Our favourite part of the week was the pizza making, we started by collecting our ingredients to make the dough from scratch, we left it to rise and then rolled it out, added our favourite toppings and popped them in the oven to cook. They were yummy, some of the children described them as the best pizzas they have ever tasted!
Upper – Year 5/6
Our new persuasion topic is going well in literacy. The children have sent an email to Lancashire County Council to ask for a pedestrian crossing outside of our school. They came up with lots of justified reasons for the application and completed a traffic survey to back up their argument. Can you believe that a staggering 86 vehicles in 15 minutes passed our school at 9am? We look forward to getting a reply from the council.
In maths we have been working hard learning about translations and symmetry where the children had some tricky mastery questions to solve.
The children’s water themes art is looking impressive. They have chosen to use either charcoal, acrylic paint, watercolour or pencils. We will share their finished work with you soon. We have enjoyed a competitive game of rounders too.

Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations
Wow Wednesday – The children will be working in their house groups in the morning and taking part in jubilee crafts and decorating a biscuit to eat in our celebration on Thursday.
Thrilling Thursday – The children are encouraged to wear their own clothes for the day in the National colours (red, white and/or blue) to celebrate the Jubilee. In the afternoon we will be having a picnic lunch followed by celebration events, games and races. For the afternoon’s party, the children can also bring a “soft toy” friend to share the day with if they wish.
Message from Lucy our Cook – Thankyou so much to everyone who brought material into school to be made into bunting. I have made over 40 metres to go around the school to celebrate the Jubilee, so look out for it next week. If anyone would like a Jubilee party dinner on Thursday, please can you order on Wednesday morning, so I have time to prepare.
