11th February

Class News.

Juniors had a wonderful last week of this half-term. During Monday’s Spanish Day they looked at the work of artist Joan Miro and replicated his work.  The children all did really well and their work is proudly on display in the hall.  Check out the Facebook page for pictures of the day.

Jess Butterworth met us virtually for a session about her career as an author on Tuesday.  Jess writes books based on the world around us and we have loved reading ‘When the Mountains Roared’ and ‘Running on the Roof of the World’.  Jess gave us a really interesting presentation and we got a chance to ask her questions.

Year 6 Star of the week: Isabel for fantastic art in the style of Joan Miro

Year 5 Star of the week: Dexter for fantastic art in the style of Joan Miro

Year 4 Star of the week: James for excellent effort and great content in his report on Healthy Living

Year 3 Star of the week: Jack for good ideas when writing his report on Healthy Living

Infants We had a fantastic Spanish day on Monday. We learnt the Spanish greetings for good morning and good afternoon.  We also learnt numbers 1-10 in Spanish and listened to the Spanish version of The Three Little Pigs, picking out key vocabulary. In the afternoon we used a dice to play a number game – remembering our Spanish number names. The dice helped us to produce some Joan Miro style artwork.  It is now displayed in the school hall.

On Tuesday, we had a visit from Harold the giraffe and the Life Education teacher, Katy. We learnt all about our bodies and things we can do to keep them healthy.

Thank you to Mrs Cottam and some junior children who have been renovating our school library. It looks fabulous! We are going to be having regular library sessions soon and are really excited about this.

Infant Star of the week:         Ruby for writing the best big, bad wolf description in our writing competition.

Certificates:                            Eric for making a great effort in all of his lessons and trying really hard to speak in Spanish.

                                                Mark for super reading

Upper Junior Caving Day – our year 5 & 6 children will be experiencing an introduction to caving on Monday 21st February (the first day back after half-term).  These sessions will be led by an experienced instructor from Tower Wood Outdoor Centre, along with Mr Stafford-Roberts and will take place at a cave in the Yorkshire Dales chosen by the instructor.   There is no charge for these sessions, school will be funding the full cost.  Children will need a packed lunch on the day, information sheets were sent out last week. If any parent has any queries or concerns, please do speak to Mr Stafford-Roberts.

Bikeability – 1st & 2nd March.  All of our year 5 and 6 pupils will be undertaking Bikeability training on Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd March.  Bikeability is a cycling proficiency course giving children the skills and confidence to cycle in today’s traffic conditions.  In this week’s bag, parents of participating children will find a letter regarding the training, an ‘M Check’ to ensure your child’s bike is roadworthy, plus a consent form which needs to be completed and returned as soon as possible.  The course is fully funded by Lancaster County Council and bears no cost to parents.

Veg Power. Lucy is promoting Veg Power, eat them to defeat. The campaign runs from February 28th to March 28th and aims to get children trying more vegetables, by focusing each week on a different vegetable!  If children would like to draw, colour, paint or collage a vegetable picture over half-term Lucy will display them round the dinner hatch.  There will be a prize for the best vegetable picture by Infants, Lower Juniors, and Upper Juniors.  Judging will take place on Friday 25th February so make sure all entries are received by then.  Thanks Lucy.
