Year 5 and 6 Juniors had a wonderful trip to Dove Cottage in Grasmere where they found out lots of new and interesting information. They went inside Dove Cottage, walked around the grounds and explored a new poem ‘Lucy Gray’. They then walked into Grasmere Village, visited William Wordsworth’s grave and enjoyed a piece of gingerbread courtesy of the PTA. We were so proud of how the children behaved and the wonderful questions they asked.
They have also been busy creating detailed Roman Mosaics in computing to then use for art printing techniques.
Christmas performance practice is in full swing too!
Year 5 Star of the week: Joey for volunteering to be in another year group at Dove Cottage
Year 6 Star of the week: Izzy for being kind to another child who had hurt himself
Year 3 and 4. This week has been a mixed bag! The juniors all went on a lovely trip to Grasmere on Tuesday and the Christmas play practice has begun in full swing. Please support your child to learn their lines for the play, it is a great help to us and them if they know their lines. It will help your child to feel more prepared for the play and hopefully more confident to say their lines clearly and wow the audience! It is the first play we have done in a while so should be a lovely event in the school calendar.
Our Science has overlapped with our English work this week, looking at classification and how we group animals and plants. We will continue with our interactive book next week. Maths has been all about efficient methods for subtraction for the year 4s and Year 3s has been more about addition, adding 3 digits to 2-digit numbers. Reading is still really important at school and at home. Please continue to read with your child regularly, this really does support their learning in school.
Year 4 Star of the week: Evie for being patient and kind to others
Year 3 Star of the week: Livia for being patient and kind to others
Infants have had a busy week securing understanding of friendly numbers that make 5, exploring 5 making part of other numbers and counting in multiples of 5 (older children). We have also been investigating the Nativity characters, what they tell us about what God is like and painting fantastic watercolour pictures of them.
Looking ahead to next week, we will be having a Forest School adventure with our friends from Leck St Peter’s, where we will be doing some cookery on the forest fire and making bird feeders – as well as exploring seasonal changes in the forest area.
Certificates are awarded this week to match our ‘Being Kind’ emphasis during Anti Bullying week.
Infant Star of the week: Jonathan for being a kind friend, giving pencil pots out to the other Reception children each morning.
Certificate: Sam for always having a kind, encouraging word for others.
Ruby for having a kind smile that cheers everyone up.
