Class News.

Year 5 and 6 have written some beautiful poetry around the theme of Remembrance Day. Please enjoy an extract from Noah’s poem: –

“A long time ago a man called Hitler started a war.

Day and night they fought and fought,

Every day more soldiers falling to the floor.

As the Germans flew overhead,

The English resting in their bed.

Until that day when EVERY country had had enough!

The Bombing went on but then they struck.”

In maths they have been practising square, cube and prime numbers and in science they are enjoying the new topic “earth & space”.  The children have now completed some fantastic Roman Mosaics, which are proudly displayed in the main entrance.

Year 5 Star of the week: Jessica – excellent homework

Year 6 Star of the week: Daisy – 100% effort in maths

Year 3 and 4. Roman invasions, The Amazing World of Plants, Nature poems, Problem solving, Reading, Writing and lots more in between!!  Lots of super things going on this week.  Plus a fabulous workshop this morning delivered by Lancaster University.  What a super week we have had.  Mrs Cook really enjoyed the COP26 homework that most of the children brought in.  It was great to hear about what the children had found out and what they were doing at home to help the environment.

Year 4 Star of the week: James – for persevering with problem solving in Maths this week and always having a positive attitude towards his learning.

Year 3 Star of the week: William – for working hard to write a short story this week and always having a positive attitude towards his learning.

Infants are very excited to have started practising for our Christmas Service in church. Infants will be learning how to mime the events of the Christmas Story. They should be able to tell you which character they are going to be. We have the costumes in school already.

In topic work this week, we have been exploring our sense of smell. We have learnt how this can keep us safe. We have explored the smell of different herbs and spices, made smelly potions and children in Years 1 and 2 have had a competition to design the ‘Smelliest Sock’!

Year 2 children have been practising counting in 2’s, 5’s, 10’s and 3’s. Please reinforce this at home when you can so that we can be super, fluent mathematicians.

Infant Star of the week: Syd – For being enthusiastic and always trying hard.

Certificate: George – For super ideas in Science.

Young Voices – We have received quite a few requests for parent tickets for this event.  The tickets need to be ordered next week, so this really is your final opportunity to buy tickets through school. The slip is at the end of the newsletter again today and must be returned on Monday.

Junior Dove Cottage Trip – All junior pupils are looking forward to the Dove Cottage trip on Tuesday 16th November.  A detailed information sheet is included in their Friday bag today; they need to wear school uniform and sensible footwear, eg: trainers or school shoes and bring waterproof jacket and a packed lunch and drink.

Flu Sprays. The Vaccination Team will be in school on Wednesday 17th November to administer the spray to pupils who missed it earlier in the term. If you have already taken your child to have the spray please let us know, we don’t want to double up!

Christmas Service.  We will be celebrating in church this year, with “The Well Good News of Christmas”, junior pupils have words to practise in their Friday bags today.

Christmas Cards.  The Christmas Card proofs designed by the children have arrived and are included in the Friday bag today, together with an order form.  Each card will contain a printed greeting of “Merry Christmas” inside that does not appear on the proof.  Please can all orders be returned to school by Friday 19th November at the very latest.  The sale of these cards raises funds for the PTA that are used to benefit all pupils in school.

The Big Dig. Included in all Friday bags today is a poster promoting the Garden Gang’s plan; do have a look.  It will be fantastic, but we do need parental help to make it happen!
