11th June

We have welcomed a new family to school this week.  Scarlett has joined us in year 3 and Jasmine in year 1, we hope they will be really happy here.

Year 6 pupils received their Leaver’s Hoodie today, they are wonderful and the children all look really smart in them.  Mark Norris’s company, Pierra has kindly covered the cost.  The children can wear them to school for the rest of the term if they wish.

The situation with regard to Covid19 in school has not changed. Please continue to pick up and drop off at your allotted times and to wear a mask whilst on the school grounds. Please remind anyone else picking up on your behalf. We are still working hard in school to keep your children and our staff safe.

Reception children have been designing their own number blocks thinking about tens and ones.

Years 1 and 2 have started to learn about wombats.  They have written some acrostic poems and used sculpting skills to make playdough wombats.

The Infant Star Award           Eric – Fantastic information writing about jungle animals and for being a kind friend.

Infant Certificates                  Ronnie – Creating a detailed zebra painting.

Daisy & Daniel – working together to write a super acrostic poem about a wombat.

Lower Juniors have hit the ground running this week with their new topic – Europe.  They have been looking at the different countries in Europe and finding out a little bit more about them.  The children have enjoyed looking at the globe, doing quizzes, using the computers to do research and completing jigsaws!  Ask them about what they have learnt and share your knowledge with them too!

Maths has been a continuation of fractions and also starting to look at tenths and hundredths for some of the year 4s.  They will be continuing this for a few more weeks.  Please support your child by encouraging them to go on TT Rockstars; a little everyday would be fantastic.

Their house points challenge has begun again.  They are aiming for over 100 points this half term.  Completing their homework, reading regularly at home, going on TT Rockstars and generally putting in lots of effort in class will most definitely get them there for the treat at the end of term.  Thank you for supporting your child at home to help them get to their target.  Mrs Cook.

Year 3 star of the week          Megan – for always having a positive attitude to learning.

Year 4 star of the week          Antoni – for working hard to improve his writing and reading more regularly at home.

Upper Juniors will be taking part in a variety of events this half-term, including a rounders tournament and a trip to Warton Crag.  The Victorians topic will continue and they will be looking at Street Children and the formation of Dr Barnados.  A walk around Hornby is planned to discover the characteristics of Victorian Houses along the Main Street.  For science they will be exploring the forces of friction and air resistance.

Year 5 star of the week          Daisy – literacy, brilliant headlines.

Year 6 star of the week          Nell – great contribution to lessons.

We are really disappointed to have to tell you that the junior’s trip to Tower Wood on Thursday 17th June has been cancelled. We only found out at the beginning of the week that the centre does not have sufficient instructors to be able to accommodate us. We have a trip planned for early in the autumn.

On a more positive note all the junior children are off to Warton Crag on Tuesday 15th June for the whole day.  They will need a packed lunch and drink on the day and to come to school in long trousers or leggings (due to there being ticks) and their school top.  Walking boots or trainers would be the best footwear, no wellies please.  A detailed information sheet about this trip is included with the email today, do have a read.

Tempest Photography will be in school on Friday 18th July to take Individual and Family photos; as well as a whole school photo.
