Lower Juniors have been writing setting descriptions, using our senses to think about what we would see, hear and touch in Asgard, home of the Viking gods. We are now starting to think about creating our own world, this will be used in our own version of a Viking myth. The children used their imagination to draw and write about their own world. Mrs Cook was really impressed with their ideas. There are lots of great resources on https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/english-ks1-english-viking-sagas/zkyqd6f There are stories, songs, sequencing and settings for different worlds on there, a great website for your child to gain some more inspiration for their own Viking myth.
In Maths, we have entered the world of fractions! A daunting one for some but hopefully with recap from the previous years and lots of practice they will gain confidence with their understanding of fractions. Please keep encouraging your child to work on https://www.ttrockstars.com/ as this will help them to understand fractions too!
We are offering lots of rewards for homework and reading at home at the moment so please continue to encourage and support your child at home, every little helps!
Year 3 star of the week Ruby – working hard to improve her times tables knowledge at home and school and her general attitude to learning is always very positive.
Year 4 star of the week Joey – for his overall attitude towards learning both in school and at home, he is a good role model for the rest of the class.
Upper Juniors enjoyed their climbing session on Monday despite the weather! Pictures of the day have been uploaded to Facebook. They have written some lovely recounts of the day for literacy. In maths they have been working on ratio and proportion. Their final designs for Victorian Spinning Tops are now complete and Mrs Shaw brought in some Victorian artefacts for the children to explore, these were borrowed from Hawes Countryside Museum. Continuing the Victorian theme, they have started reading Street Child by Berlie Doherty. In PE they enjoyed a game of rounders with Mrs Cottam and Miss Yost playing on a team each too! Thank you to Izzy and Dominic for showing us their Blue Peter badges.
Year 5 star of the week Daisy – Excellent effort at climbing
Year 6 star of the week Grace – Recount of climbing
Thank you to Miss Allen for sharing her life like baby doll with all the juniors during PSHE.
