1st February

Junior After-School Fitness Club

There are two more sessions of the popular fitness club, these being Monday 4th February and Monday 11th February, it will not run after half-term.

Safer Internet Day

Next Tuesday 5th February is Safer Internet Day.  Pupils will be taking part in activities relating to internet safety in class.  Please could we also remind parents that there is a full range of information and advice in the parent section of our website.

Junior Football Event

The Lune Valley School Cluster is running a Football Event at Arkholme Primary School on Wednesday 6th February.  We are sending 7 upper juniors and 5 lower juniors to take part.  An information sheet is included in the Friday Bag today for those taking part.  Please note that upper juniors will need football boots and shin pads, lower juniors can play in trainers, don’t buy football boots or shin pads just for this!

Passport to Safer Cycling

Upper junior children will find a Lancashire County Council ‘Passport to Safer Cycling’ magazine in the Friday bag this week.

Dinner Money

Please can we remind parents to try and keep up to date with dinner money.  Reminders have been texted today to parents with more than a couple of weeks outstanding.  The balance on these texts does not include lunches taken this week, it only goes up to Friday 25th January.

Year 5 & 6 Residential

Please remember that the balance for the Edinburgh residential visit, which takes place at the beginning of July, needs to be paid in full by the end of March. If this timescale causes a problem do come and talk to Mrs Sharpe and we will try to organise a revised deadline.

Reading/ Spellings

Lately staff have noticed that some children are not reading at home often or even at all.  This is so important, as although the children are heard to read in school, they also need encouraging/supporting at home.  We would suggest that children read at least four times per week.  It doesn’t just have to be their school book.  Comics, newspapers and other books all count.

Spellings are also an important part of the curriculum, your child brings home a new spelling list each week.  We really value parents/carers support with practising these.

Clubs

After half-term junior staff will be running a couple of lunch-time clubs.  Mrs Cottam will run a Creative Writing Club on Wednesday for years 5 & 6 and Mrs Cook  will run a Board Games Club on Friday for years 3 & 4. Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club will also be running an after school club on Mondays.
More information about all these clubs next week.
