8th December

We expect everyone is now aware of the two sad events related to school.  It was a great shock to all staff to hear of the passing of Aunty Pat, she had been coming into school to listen to the junior children read for as long as any of us can remember.  A group of staff will be attending her funeral on Monday to represent school.  We were also very sad to hear about Jo Thomas (Finley and Emily’s Mum), her funeral is also on Monday in the afternoon and again school will be represented.  For any parents who were wanting to attend Jo’s funeral, we would be happy to let you either pick your children up early or alternatively Mrs Cottam has kindly offered to stay and look after any children whose parents are unable to pick them up until after the funeral.  We would of course need you to make us aware of this on Monday morning.

PTA News.

We are delighted to let you know that we raised an amazing £960 at last week’s Christmas fair! Huge thanks to everyone involved, whether in the planning and preparation prior to the event; setting up, clearing away or helping out on the day; donating/collecting raffle prizes; buying raffle tickets and selling them to family members in advance; donating goods; and of course, last but not least, supporting the event on the day – we couldn’t have done it without all of your support, so thank you very much.

We are planning to run some fun activities and events in the Spring term, so watch this space! In the meantime, wishing you all a merry and restful Christmas break, from the PTA.

The Winners of the Decorated Jar Competition were announced in assembly this afternoon.  Toby Hollings-Tennant won in the infants; Jamie Norris in the lower juniors and Olivia Wozny in the upper juniors, they each received a selection box donated by the PTA.

Christmas Play Performances.

The children are all really looking forward to performing for you next Tuesday 12th December.  Thank you for returning your ticket requests for the two performances, you will find your tickets in this week’s Friday Bag.  Please could children be back in school for 6:10pm to get changed ready for the evening performance at 6:30pm.  We will hold a collection at the end of each performance for St John’s Hospice.

Infant Art Club.

The last session this term of Miss Allen’s Art Club will be a design technology based one on Wednesday 13th December.  The club will start again in January for juniors, but will not be on a Wednesday as Junior Golf Club will be on then.

Carol Service

We look forward to seeing everyone in Church for the carol service on Wednesday 13th December at 6:30pm (please note time change from last week’s newsletter).  Several of the junior children will be reading, so we need to know if anyone is unable to attend for any reason.  Parents, Grandparents and all friends of school are invited to join us.

Christmas Activity Day

Cookie will be preparing a party lunch on Tuesday 19th December, which all pupils can join.    If you child doesn’t usually have lunch on a Tuesday but would like to have this special lunch, please pop a note in the bag on Monday together with £2.20 to cover the cost.  The afternoon will then be devoted to Christmas Activities.  Children can come to school in their Christmas Jumper if they wish (don’t buy one specially, clothes in Christmas Colours would be fine).

Junior children need to bring in one sheet of wrapping paper for this activity day, thinner/cheaper paper will work best – many thanks Mrs Cottam.

End of Day Procedures

Please can we remind parents that you need to let us know who is picking your children up at the end of the school day.  If they are going home with other children, we need either to be told by a parent in the morning or to receive a telephone call informing us.  Thank you.
