British Values
In accordance with The Department for Education, we aim to actively promote British values in our school to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

At Hornby St Margaret’s these values are promoted regularly within the curriculum and through the Christian ethos embedded in our school.
How we promote British Values at Hornby St Margaret’s 2026
The Four Fundamental British Values
- Democracy- Pupils learn about the importance of having a voice and making decisions fairly. We encourage participation through school councils, class votes, and pupil leadership roles.
- Individual Liberty - Children are supported to make informed choices and develop independence in a safe environment, understanding their rights and responsibilities.
- Rule of Law- We teach respect for laws and rules, both in school and in wider society, helping pupils understand why they exist and the consequences of breaking them.
- Mutual Respect and Tolerance- Our curriculum promotes respect for others, regardless of background, faith, or beliefs. Pupils learn to celebrate diversity and challenge discrimination.
