The first day was spent learning skills in the playground and on the second day they were out on the road learning how to ride safely in traffic. The children have been a real credit to us all and have put in 100% effort over the two days. The instructors commented on how well behaved the children were, which is always lovely to hear! Well done Year 5 and 6 \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lower &#8211; Year 3\/4<\/strong> \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I have been wowed this week by the children&#8217;s sentences in English.\u00a0 We have been using adverbs, adverbial phrases and exciting verbs to make our sentences super duper!\u00a0 I have had lots of lovely feedback on the kindness activities that children took home for Lent last week, lots of kindness being spread around!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In Maths, the Year 4 have been looking at &#8216;area&#8217; and learning that it is the space a shape takes up on a surface and Year 3s have been converting and comparing measures.\u00a0 Learning that everything is made up of &#8216;matter&#8217; in Science has been interesting and &#8216;matter&#8217; falls into three categories; solids, liquids and gases.\u00a0 We will be investigating this more over the next few weeks.\u00a0 Thank you to Jack for bringing in a book from home to help us understand this better and we even learnt a song!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5\/6 Star of the week: <\/strong>All children for an amazing effort at Bikeability<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 4 Star of the week: <\/strong>Ruby &#8211;\u00a0for writing great sentences by changing the verbs and using adverbial phrases and adverbs!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 Star of the week: <\/strong>Daniel &#8211; for writing great sentences by changing the verbs and using adverbial phrases and adverbs!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infants<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Infants this week we have been continuing to explore traditional tales and our clothes theme.<\/p>\n<p>Reception children have been making tricky word pancakes, sock puppets, number 7 number blocks and exploring wash day in the past by reading Mrs Lather&#8217;s Laundry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In Years 1 and 2,\u00a0we have been continuing to explore methods for addition and subtraction calculations. Year 1 have started to look at word problems and draw pictures to help them with calculating.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We have also been thinking about our local environment of Hornby and designing some road safety rules for Rosie the Hen. Reception children used the large wheeled toys outdoors to act out road safety scenarios.\u00a0 On Tuesday we made pancakes and thought about what Lent means for Christians. We enjoyed eating our pancakes. During reflection time, we have discussed events in Ukraine and some children chose to write prayers we can use over the next few weeks.\u00a0 We had great fun making three pigs houses in Science and investigating which were the most wind and waterproof!\u00a0We celebrated World Book Day on Friday by bringing in a character prop and sharing our favourite stories.\u00a0 We have also enjoyed our library session this week and were excited to choose a new book.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Infant <\/strong><strong>Stars of the week\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Macy<\/u> &#8211; For super subtraction work this week and settling back into\u00a0\u00a0 school quickly after being away ill.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><u>Ruby<\/u> &#8211; For writing some fantastic road safety rules for Rosie the Hen, thinking about particular hazards in Hornby.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>World Book Day \u2013 <\/strong>The children have enjoyed World Book Day celebrations and have spent time reading to each other. Some of the children brought a prop and their favourite book which has been lovely to see.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday Bags<\/strong> \u2013 Book tokens have been sent home with the children in Friday bags, These can be redeemed at The Book Lounge in Kirkby Lonsdale and Carnforth Bookshop along with other participating retailers. <u>Please return Friday bags on MONDAY<\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday Assembly &#8211; <\/strong>Robert Webb from the Duchy of Lancaster came into school yesterday to give an assembly about the Queen&#8217;s Platinum Jubilee. He came dressed in full uniform including his sword which the children were very interested in! Robert was very impressed with the children\u2019s enthusiasm and all the questions they had for him to answer!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Library books \u2013 <\/strong>Our new library system is working well, Remember, your child <strong><u>MUST<\/u><\/strong> return their book on a Monday, \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chickenpox \u2013 <\/strong>We have a few children off with chickenpox at the moment, please note that the guidance says to stay at home for 5 days from the onset of rash and return to school once all spots have crusted over. For any enquiries about how long to stay off for illnesses, we have a handy poster in the parent advice section on the website; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/index.php\/parent-forms-advice\/573-2\/\">Infection Control Guidance<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Covid Update. <\/strong>We would like to thank everyone for their continued support and efforts with keeping each other safe and please continue to test if your child is feeling unwell or displays the classic symptoms. We will now follow the current guidance and ask that if a child tests positive, they stay at home for 5 days. Siblings with a negative test can now continue to come to school. The school website also has the government information for parents about vaccinations for 5-11 year olds. This will be via Zoom at 7pm so you can even stay at home.
