During Monday\u2019s Spanish Day they looked at the work of artist Joan Miro and replicated his work.\u00a0 The children all did really well and their work is proudly on display in the hall.\u00a0 Check out the Facebook page for pictures of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Jess Butterworth met us virtually for a session about her career as an author on Tuesday.\u00a0 Jess writes books based on the world around us and we have loved reading \u2018When the Mountains Roared\u2019 and \u2018Running on the Roof of the World\u2019.\u00a0 Jess gave us a really interesting presentation and we got a chance to ask her questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 6 Star of the week: Isabel <\/strong>for fantastic art in the style of Joan Miro<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 Star of the week: <\/strong><strong>Dexter<\/strong> for fantastic art in the style of Joan Miro<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 4 Star of the week: James <\/strong>for excellent effort and great content in his report on Healthy Living<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 Star of the week: Jack <\/strong>for good ideas when writing his report on Healthy Living<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Infants<\/strong> We had a fantastic Spanish day on Monday. We learnt the Spanish greetings for good morning and good afternoon.\u00a0 We also learnt numbers 1-10 in Spanish and listened to the Spanish version of The Three Little Pigs, picking out key vocabulary. In the afternoon we used a dice to play a number game &#8211; remembering our Spanish number names. The dice helped us to produce some Joan Miro style artwork.\u00a0 It is now displayed in the school hall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, we had a visit from Harold the giraffe and the Life Education teacher, Katy. We learnt all about our bodies and things we can do to keep them healthy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to Mrs Cottam and some junior children who have been renovating our school library. It looks fabulous! We are going to be having regular library sessions soon and are really excited about this.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infant Star of the week: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ruby <\/strong>for writing the best big, bad wolf description in our writing competition.<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Certificates:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Eric <\/strong>for making a great effort in all of his lessons and trying really hard to speak in Spanish.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mark <\/strong>for super reading<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upper Junior Caving Day<\/strong> \u2013 our year 5 &amp; 6 children will be experiencing an introduction to caving on <strong><em>Monday 21<sup>st<\/sup> February<\/em><\/strong> (the first day back after half-term).\u00a0 These sessions will be led by an experienced instructor from Tower Wood Outdoor Centre, along with Mr Stafford-Roberts and will take place at a cave in the Yorkshire Dales chosen by the instructor.\u00a0\u00a0 There is no charge for these sessions, school will be funding the full cost.\u00a0 Children will need a packed lunch on the day, information sheets were sent out last week. If any parent has any queries or concerns, please do speak to Mr Stafford-Roberts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior Film Club. <\/strong>Mrs Cottam will be running a film club for junior children on a Monday starting after half-term. The club will run from <strong><em>3:30 to 4:30pm<\/em><\/strong> and there will be a \u00a310 charge for the half-term.\u00a0 Please email <a href=\"mailto:bursar@hornby.lancs.sch.uk\">bursar@hornby.lancs.sch.uk<\/a> if you would like your child\/ren to attend.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>After School Junior Rugby Club.\u00a0 <\/strong>Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club will be running a Junior Rugby club starting on <strong><em>Tuesday 22<sup>nd<\/sup> February<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 The club will run from <strong><em>3:30 to 4:30pm<\/em><\/strong> and there will be a \u00a310 charge for the term.\u00a0 Please email <a href=\"mailto:bursar@hornby.lancs.sch.uk\">bursar@hornby.lancs.sch.uk<\/a> if you would like your child\/ren to attend.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bikeability \u2013 1<sup>st<\/sup> &amp; 2<sup>nd<\/sup> March.\u00a0 <\/strong>All of our year 5 and 6 pupils will be undertaking Bikeability training on <strong><em>Monday 1<sup>st<\/sup> and Tuesday 2<sup>nd<\/sup> March<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Bikeability is a cycling proficiency course giving children the skills and confidence to cycle in today\u2019s traffic conditions.\u00a0 In this week\u2019s bag, parents of participating children will find a letter regarding the training, an \u2018M Check\u2019 to ensure your child\u2019s bike is roadworthy, plus a consent form which needs to be completed and returned as soon as possible.\u00a0 The course is fully funded by Lancaster County Council and bears no cost to parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Veg Power. <\/strong>Lucy is promoting <strong><em>Veg Power, eat them to defeat.<\/em><\/strong> The campaign runs from <strong><em>February 28<sup>th<\/sup> to March 28<sup>th<\/sup><\/em><\/strong> and aims to get children trying more vegetables, by focusing each week on a different vegetable!\u00a0 If children would like to draw, colour, paint or collage a vegetable picture over half-term Lucy will display them round the dinner hatch.\u00a0 There will be a prize for the best vegetable picture by Infants, Lower Juniors, and Upper Juniors.\u00a0 Judging will take place on <strong><em>Friday 25<sup>th<\/sup> February<\/em><\/strong> so make sure all entries are received by then.\u00a0 Thanks Lucy.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Covid Update. <\/strong>At the moment in school we are \u201cCovid Free\u201d we would like to thank everyone for their continued support and efforts with keeping each other safe and please continue to test if your child is feeling unwell.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dates this half-term: &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Monday 21<sup>st<\/sup> Feb \u2013 Return to School for 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Half of Spring Term<\/p>\n<p>Monday 21<sup>st<\/sup> Feb &#8211; Junior Film Club 3:30 \u2013 4:30pm<\/p>\n<p>Monday 21<sup>st<\/sup> Feb \u2013 Upper Juniors Caving<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday 22<sup>nd<\/sup> Feb \u2013 After School Junior Rugby Club 3:30 \u2013 4:30pm<\/p>\n<p>Saturday 26<sup>th<\/sup> Feb \u2013 Garden Gang Big Dig<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday 1<sup>st<\/sup> Mar \u2013 Year 5 &amp; 6 Bikeability<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Mar &#8211; Year 5 &amp; 6 Bikeability<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Class News.
