Please be cautious and use lateral flow tests on your children if they display any symptoms, including cold symptoms, which seem to be common for our children.<\/p>\n<p>At school, we would prefer you to keep your child\/ren at home for 5 days if they are a household close contact, but the latest official advice is below:<\/p>\n<p>If you are aged 5 years and over and live in the same household as someone with COVID-19, and are not legally required to self-isolate, you are strongly advised to: \u2022 take an LFD test every day for 7 days, or until 10 days after the household member who has COVID[1]19 started their self-isolation period if this is earlier \u2022 take this daily LFD test before you leave your home for the first time that day \u2022 report your LFD test results after taking each test \u2013 reporting positive LFD test results means that NHS Test and Trace can get in touch with your contacts and advise them on what to do; reporting negative LFD test results helps us understand more about the spread of COVID-19<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Class News.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Years 5 and 6.\u00a0 <\/strong>It has been a busy and fun week in upper juniors.\u00a0 The children have enjoyed looking at TV holiday adverts and finding their slogans.\u00a0 The new literacy topic is \u2018Persuasion, television adverts\u2019 so they have been gathering ideas and having a go on iMovie this week.\u00a0 They even came up with their own slogans to persuade people to visit Spain, below are a few examples: &#8211;<\/p>\n<p><em>Laugh, Love, Sleep<\/em>, Repeat by Maisie &amp; Dexter<\/p>\n<p><em>High Five Sunny Skies<\/em> by Joey &amp; Daisy<\/p>\n<p><em>Slide into the Sun<\/em> by Billy, Antoni &amp; Michael Francis<\/p>\n<p>We will be filming their adverts over the next couple of weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Maths has been percentage based and the children have all done really well.\u00a0 Why not test them to see if they can work out these: &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>15% of 240\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 12% of 420\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 24% of 50\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 60% of 330<\/p>\n<p>In science the children have all labelled a complete diagram of the heart and know how it works.<\/p>\n<p>They had a really enjoyable Bollywood Dance session on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 6 Star of the week: Daisy <\/strong>for excellent effort in science.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 Star of the week: <\/strong><strong>Michael Francis <\/strong>for working super hard in maths.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Years 3 and 4.<\/strong> Did you know that our value for this half term is &#8216;PEACE&#8217;?\u00a0 Each half term we have a value that we focus on in school.\u00a0 This week we have thought about ways that we can bring peace and build each other up.\u00a0 In Juniors, we created a list of things we could do to promote and bring about our value of peace.\u00a0 Some of the things included giving someone some encouragement, boosting someone&#8217;s confidence by saying something kind and supporting someone who looked upset or hurt.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In year 3 and 4, we have learnt more about different types of skeletons and their advantages and disadvantages.\u00a0 We have talked about how we can look after ourselves on the inside and the outside and talked about our feelings and our mental health.\u00a0 Year 3 and 4 thought about things they do to help them feel good or things they did if they felt worried.\u00a0 These things included talking to an adult or friend, going out in nature and listening to the birds or giving someone a big hug.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In Art with Miss Yost, all year 3 and 4 children have been working really hard learning new drawing skills.\u00a0 We have looked at light, shadow, tone, texture and line techniques.\u00a0 To bring all these skills together I have asked the children to choose an object from home and bring it in to school by next Wednesday (02.02.22) to draw.\u00a0 The children know it shouldn\u2019t be any bigger than their water bottle and we talked about suitable examples\/<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 4 Star of the week: Scarlett <\/strong>for excellent effort in Maths.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 Star of the week: William <\/strong>for excellent effort in Maths.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Infants<\/strong> this week have been learning about animal homes, pet homes and homes around the world. We have used different construction materials to create some homes from around the world, working in small teams. We had to problem solve how to build, join and balance construction materials.\u00a0 We have also designed, created and tasted a healthy breakfast smoothie for Mr Wolf because he was eating too many pancakes!\u00a0 In RE, we have been exploring what Baptism tells us about joining the family of God.\u00a0 If any of you have any items from a child&#8217;s baptism to bring into school to show that would be great to see them (e.g. a certificate\/candle\/clothes).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We have been writing pet diaries and continuing our alternative versions of &#8216;The Three Little Pigs&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0Mathematics, we have been adding by counting on and the bigger children have been partitioning numbers into tens and ones to help with calculating. Reception children have been looking at different coins and using them in the Pet Shop role play area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As part of our school ethos to foster a love of reading, it would be really appreciated if some parents were able to volunteer to hear Infants read. This could be just after morning drop off or just before pick up at the end of the day.\u00a0 Daily opportunities to read to an adult are vital in helping young children to learn to read and to begin to understand what they have read. Thank you.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infant Star of the week: Mark <\/strong>for great colour mixing with primary colours to create the colour he wanted to paint a cat picture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Certificate: Jasmine <\/strong>for being a friendly member of Class One and drawing a clear story plan to help with her story writing.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior Football Event.\u00a0 <\/strong>The Lune Valley School Cluster is running a Football Event at Arkholme Primary School on <strong><em>Tuesday 1<sup>st<\/sup> February<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 We are sending 8 upper juniors and 6 lower juniors to take part.\u00a0 An information sheet is included in the Friday bag today for those taking part, the bus will be leaving school at 9am promptly so we will send the kit home the day before.\u00a0 It would be preferable if children could wear shin pads and football boots, other teams will be wearing them and it can hurt if children are kicked or stood on without shin pads.\u00a0 We are grateful to Mr Hill, who has volunteered to help with this event.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Edinburgh Residential \u2013 <\/strong><strong>22<sup>nd<\/sup> \u2013 24<sup>th<\/sup> June 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are hoping to be able to go ahead with the Edinburgh Trip in the summer term, we have booked the train tickets, with the understanding that we can cancel if it becomes obvious that we will not be going.\u00a0 The total cost of the trip is \u00a3180, payments can be made on schoolmoney.co.uk.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior Film Club. <\/strong>Mrs Cottam will be running a film club for junior children on a Monday starting after half-term. The club will run from 3:30 to 4:30pm and there will be a \u00a310 charge for the half-term.\u00a0 Please email <a href=\"mailto:bursar@hornby.lancs.sch.uk\">bursar@hornby.lancs.sch.uk<\/a> if you would like your child\/ren to attend.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Staff Leaving \u2013 Gift from parents.\u00a0 <\/strong>As you will know, sadly, Mrs Sharpe and Miss Allen are leaving us to explore new opportunities. They\u2019ve been with us for a very long time and donations are being collected to buy a gift as a token of thanks for all their hard work.
