{"id":3404,"date":"2021-11-19T13:53:54","date_gmt":"2021-11-19T13:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/?p=3404"},"modified":"2021-11-19T13:53:57","modified_gmt":"2021-11-19T13:53:57","slug":"19th-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/index.php\/2021\/11\/19\/19th-november\/","title":{"rendered":"19th November"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Class News.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 and 6 <\/strong>Juniors had a wonderful trip to Dove Cottage in Grasmere where they found out lots of new and interesting information.\u00a0 They went inside Dove Cottage, walked around the grounds and explored a new poem \u2018Lucy Gray\u2019.\u00a0 They then walked into Grasmere Village, visited William Wordsworth\u2019s grave and enjoyed a piece of gingerbread courtesy of the PTA.\u00a0 We were so proud of how the children behaved and the wonderful questions they asked.<\/p>\n<p>They have also been busy creating detailed Roman Mosaics in computing to then use for art printing techniques.<\/p>\n<p>Christmas performance practice is in full swing too!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 Star of the week: Joey <\/strong>for volunteering to be in another year group at Dove Cottage<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 6 Star of the week: Izzy <\/strong>for being kind to another child who had hurt himself<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 and 4.<\/strong> This week has been a mixed bag!\u00a0 The juniors all went on a lovely trip to Grasmere on Tuesday and the Christmas play practice has begun in full swing.\u00a0 Please support your child to learn their lines for the play, it is a great help to us and them if they know their lines.\u00a0 It will help your child to feel more prepared for the play and hopefully more confident to say their lines clearly and wow the audience!\u00a0 It is the first play we have done in a while so should be a lovely event in the school calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Our Science has overlapped with our English work this week, looking at classification and how we group animals and plants.\u00a0 We will continue with our interactive book next week.\u00a0 Maths has been all about efficient methods for subtraction for the year 4s and Year 3s has been more about addition, adding 3 digits to 2-digit numbers.\u00a0 Reading is still really important at school and at home.\u00a0 Please continue to read with your child\u00a0regularly, this really does support their learning in school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 4 Star of the week: <\/strong><strong>Evie<\/strong> for being patient and kind to others<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 Star of the week: Livia <\/strong>for being patient and kind to others<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infants<\/strong> have had a busy week securing understanding of friendly numbers that make 5, exploring 5 making part of other numbers and counting in multiples of 5 (older children).
