{"id":3372,"date":"2021-10-15T12:39:48","date_gmt":"2021-10-15T12:39:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/?p=3372"},"modified":"2021-10-15T12:39:50","modified_gmt":"2021-10-15T12:39:50","slug":"15th-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/index.php\/2021\/10\/15\/15th-october\/","title":{"rendered":"15th October"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Covid-19.\u00a0 <\/strong>We have ten positive cases currently in school.\u00a0 We continue to appreciate parents support with testing if children have symptoms of any sort.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Class News.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 and 6<\/strong> have had a busy week including the rugby tournament that some of them attended.\u00a0 They did very well and we are proud of them all.\u00a0 In literacy we enjoyed looking at the work of William Wordsworth and exploring his poetry, focusing on daffodils this week. In art the children have painted watercolours of the daffodils, including three dimensions. In maths we have been persevering with long multiplication and division work.\u00a0 They children have been working on \u2018knowing myself\u2019 and our positive qualities in PSHE.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 Star of the week: Jack <\/strong>\u2013 for excellent contribution and effort at the rugby tournament.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 6 Star of the week: Roxy <\/strong>\u2013 for her wonderful daffodil watercolour in art.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 and 4<\/strong> We concluded our &#8216;Light&#8217; topic for Science this week.\u00a0 We solved the crime and learnt lots about light in the process!\u00a0 Earth and Space next. The children really engaged with the topic and rose to the challenge of investigators.\u00a0 The children are very knowledgeable and asked lots of good questions throughout.\u00a0 Some good problem-solving skills have been used this week in Maths and English has involved some planning of our own scenes.\u00a0 Lots of super ideas and fun being had by the children.\u00a0 Thank you to the children who are at home and working hard too!\u00a0 I can&#8217;t believe we are almost at half term.\u00a0 Have a good weekend all!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 Star of the week: Daniel<\/strong> &#8211; for working well in a group for Science and for all his quality contributions during our &#8216;Light&#8217; topic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 4 Star of the week:<\/strong> <strong>Evie<\/strong> &#8211; for all her enthusiasm towards our Paddington theme, acting out stories at breaktime and including others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In<\/strong><strong>fants<\/strong> went to Borwick Hall for a day of fun-filled outdoor activities on Tuesday. We had a brilliant day doing a variety of activities which included sailing, hiking, indoor caving, the ropes course and problem-solving challenges. It was super to see all the children having a try at new activities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We have had a creative week, constructing Sukkah shelters in RE &#8211; as we have been learning about the Jewish celebration of Sukkot and continuing to make our abstract Picasso style portraits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infant Star of the week: <\/strong><strong>Ronnie<\/strong> &#8211; Showing confidence, independence and resilience during our trip to Borwick.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Certificate: Eric<\/strong> &#8211; For having a really enthusiastic attitude to all of his learning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>School Starters Reception Class Photo.<\/strong> Reception children are bringing home a lovely proof of the photo they had taken for the local newspaper.\u00a0 Order details are included, please return to school next week if you wish to place an order.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Young Voices <\/strong>\u2013 Mrs Trotman has been practising the songs with the junior children.
