{"id":3369,"date":"2021-10-08T13:29:18","date_gmt":"2021-10-08T13:29:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/?p=3369"},"modified":"2021-10-08T13:29:45","modified_gmt":"2021-10-08T13:29:45","slug":"8th-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/index.php\/2021\/10\/08\/8th-october\/","title":{"rendered":"8th October"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Covid-19.\u00a0 <\/strong>There are still positive cases around both school and the local community, so please keep monitoring children for symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Class News.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 and 6<\/strong> had an amazing day at Tower Wood on Monday, they enjoyed tree climbing and kayaking on the lake.\u00a0 The rain didn\u2019t spoil the day, in fact the sun shone on the lake during kayaking.\u00a0 They have been delving more into their guided reading books, doing lots of grammar work concentrating on clauses and pronouns, in maths they are been practising multiplying and in art carrying on with their local landscapes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 Star of the week: Joey <\/strong>\u2013 for amazing team work and enthusiasm at Tower Wood.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 6 Star of the week: Rose <\/strong>\u2013 for her positive attitude to Tower Wood.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 and 4<\/strong> all enjoyed their day at Tower Wood.\u00a0Mrs Cook was so impressed\u00a0with their determination and perseverance.\u00a0 Even with the morning rain, our spirits weren&#8217;t dampened, and we did some orienteering and went on the obstacle course then in the afternoon we went out on the Lake.\u00a0 We all had lots of fun.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to all the children who have been working hard on their spellings, reading at home, and going on TT Rockstars.\u00a0 It is great to see the children taking responsibility for their own learning with a little nudge from an adult at home too I&#8217;m sure, thank you for your support.\u00a0 Maths has involved problem solving and more number line work this week.\u00a0 In English, we are nearly at the end of the Paddington story.\u00a0 We are all really enjoying finding out about Paddington&#8217;s adventures and the many quandaries he gets himself into!!\u00a0 We will be planning our own chapter next week and writing our own version, I look forward to being able to share those with you.\u00a0 We are also coming to the end of our topic &#8216;Light&#8217; in Science and are very close to solving the crime!\u00a0 Finding out about the size of shadows depending on their proximity to the light source was our investigation this week.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 Star of the week: Adam <\/strong>\u2013 for working hard in everything he does.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 4 Star of the week: Zeus <\/strong>\u2013 for working hard to improve his handwriting and improve his presentation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In<\/strong><strong>fants<\/strong> enjoyed a multi-skills\/football session with Morecambe Football Club this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Years One and Two have been exploring and making the story setting for our class book. We have also been thinking about the jobs that our bones do and making skeletons in Science.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reception have been thinking about families and designing their own number blocks. They have been comparing objects by size and reading Goldilocks and Goldilocks and Three Dinosaurs. They have enjoyed making and choosing toppings for porridge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Regular reading practise really benefits all children. Would any parents be able to spare some time after dropping off in the morning to hear children in the infants read between\u00a09.00-9.30?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infant Star of the week: Jasmine <\/strong>\u2013 for trying hard with \u2018morning challenge\u2019 writing and making a super story setting model in English.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Certificate: Grace<\/strong> &#8211; Fantastic morning challenge work and designing her own number block.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infant Trip to Borwick Hall.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All the infant children are off for an outdoor adventure at Borwick Hall with Leck children on <strong><em>Tuesday 12<sup>th<\/sup> October<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 A detailed information sheet is included in their Friday bag today.\u00a0 Lucy, the cook, will be providing them all with a packed lunch to take with them.\u00a0 They should come to school dressed in their own warm clothes and bring waterproofs.\u00a0 We will return to school for around <strong><em>4:15pm<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior Rugby Event.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Lune Valley School Cluster is running a Rugby Event at Wray School on <strong><em>Tuesday 12<sup>th<\/sup> October<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 We are sending 9 upper juniors to take part.\u00a0 An information sheet is included in their Friday bag today for those taking part.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parent Consultations<\/strong> \u2013 appointments have been made as far as possible with parents.\u00a0 If you still don\u2019t have a suitable time, please contact Mrs Sharpe and we will try to accommodate you with a phone call.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Young Voices \u2013 Manchester Arena \u2013 7<sup>th<\/sup> February 2022. <\/strong>Thank you to everyone who has returned the slip for the Young Voices Concert.\u00a0 Please could we have the remainder in on Monday, as we have to firm up the numbers attending with the venue.\u00a0 A slip is included again at the end of the newsletter today.\u00a0 The children have started practising and really seemed to be enjoying the songs from the Lion King yesterday!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 &amp; 6 Residential <\/strong>\u2013 we plan to take all the upper junior children on a residential visit to Edinburgh from <strong><em>Wednesday 22<sup>nd<\/sup> June to Friday 24<sup>th<\/sup> June 2022<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em>\u00a0 There is a letter from Mr Stafford-Roberts regarding this trip in all upper junior children\u2019s Friday bags today.\u00a0 Please have a read and respond as soon as possible so we can start to make the necessary arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boxes of Hope.\u00a0 <\/strong>We are supporting the Boxes of Hope Charity again this year; a leaflet about this shoebox charity is included in the Friday bag today.\u00a0 It is a local charity that visits Romania each year to distribute the gift filled boxes to children.\u00a0 Please read the leaflet for further details and ideas of what to include.\u00a0 The boxes will be collected from school in early November, so please aim to have them here by <strong><em>Friday 5<sup>th<\/sup> November<\/em><\/strong>, remembering to include the \u00a32 donation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PTA NEWS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We held a planning meeting last week. We are going to try and arrange a Bags 2 Schools collection before the Christmas holidays, so please save any unwanted good quality clothing for us, and spread the word among your family and friends. We are holding off planning for a Christmas fair for the moment, but we haven\u2019t ruled it out completely so watch this space! However, we will be running our annual Grand Christmas Raffle, so keep your eyes out for suitable hamper gifts, and if you or a family member have a business that would like to donate a prize, please get in touch! We\u2019ll let you know the date of the non-uniform day as soon as it is confirmed. Children have been completing their Christmas card designs in school this week so as soon as the samples are ready you will be sent them along with an order form, all profits from card sales go towards the PTA funds. If you would like to help out with the PTA or find out more about what we do, there is a closed Facebook group you can request to join, or speak to Mrs Sharpe and she will put you in touch with us \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Welfare Assistant<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 we have a vacancy for a welfare assistant on Wednesday and Thursday from12noon \u2013 1.00 pm (term time only).
