{"id":3367,"date":"2021-10-07T13:55:11","date_gmt":"2021-10-07T13:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/?p=3367"},"modified":"2021-10-07T13:55:13","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T13:55:13","slug":"1st-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/index.php\/2021\/10\/07\/1st-october\/","title":{"rendered":"1st October"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Covid-19.\u00a0 <\/strong>Attendance at school this week has been good, in fact today it\u2019s 100%!\u00a0 If we all keep monitoring children for symptoms, we should be able to provide them with as \u2018normal\u2019 an experience in school as possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Class News.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 and 6<\/strong> have been finishing off their animal factsheets and working on subtraction in Maths.\u00a0 Along with the lower juniors, they have also been writing autumn poems and drawing cards to send to the residents of a local care home.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 Star of the week: Dexter<\/strong>\u2013 for being very focused and giving thoughtful contributions in R.E.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 6 Star of the week: Dominic <\/strong>\u2013 for sharing in-depth answers with the class in R.E.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 and 4<\/strong> have been pretending to be Paddington and writing a letter to Aunt Lucy in her retirement home for bears in Darkest Peru.\u00a0 They have had to think about the events so far in the story and consider how Paddington might be feeling about his experience of London so far.\u00a0 Maths has involved talking through different calculations, and discussing different problems linked to place value.\u00a0 We have continued to enjoy our Light topic in Science, and are getting closer to solving the crime of the stolen diamond earrings!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 Star of the week: William <\/strong>\u2013 for working hard on his Autumn poem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 4 Star of the week: Ted <\/strong>&#8211; for putting a lot of effort into his letter to Aunt Lucy in English.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In<\/strong><strong>fants<\/strong> this week have been taking part in Harvest activities.\u00a0 They have made some gratitude trees to use at prayer time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infant Star of the week: Sam<\/strong> &#8211; For his fantastic pencil drawing using lines to show emotions.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reception New Starter Photo.\u00a0 <\/strong>The Lancaster Guardian photographer came into school yesterday to take a reception group photo.\u00a0 Keep a look out for it in the paper, she said it would probably be the middle of November.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior X-Country.\u00a0 <\/strong>It was disappointing that the weather caused the cross county to be cancelled this week, we know the children were looking forward to it.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior Tower Wood.<\/strong>\u00a0 Juniors are starting their Tower Wood Adventures again on <strong><em>Monday 4<sup>th<\/sup> October<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Tower Wood is an activity centre on the shores of Windermere that offers a wide range of both land and water-based activities, perfect for a day\u2019s adventure!\u00a0 There is no charge for these trips, school covers the cost of both transport and instructors.\u00a0 Children should wear their own warm clothes, outdoor shoes or boots and will need a waterproof coat.\u00a0 Waterproof trousers would also be useful if they have them.\u00a0 Pupils will require a packed lunch and will not be back in school until about <strong><em>5:30pm<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 An information sheet is attached with the newsletter today.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parent Consultations<\/strong> \u2013 we plan to hold parent consultations virtually again this term on <strong><em>Monday 11<sup>th<\/sup> October<\/em><\/strong> using Microsoft Teams.\u00a0 Meetings will last a maximum of 10 minutes.\u00a0 We will email you a time and link for your meeting next week.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Young Voices \u2013 Manchester Arena \u2013 7<sup>th<\/sup> February 2022.\u00a0 <\/strong>We are organising an exciting opportunity for the junior children to take part in the UK\u2019s biggest school\u2019s concert.\u00a0 It is on <strong><em>Monday 7<sup>th<\/sup> February 2022<\/em><\/strong> at the Manchester Arena.\u00a0 The rehearsal is in the daytime with an evening concert.\u00a0 School will organise a bus to take all the children.\u00a0\u00a0 Parents are invited to the concert in the evening, further information regarding tickets will follow.\u00a0 We will return to school around <strong><em>10:30 to 11pm<\/em><\/strong>, children will be able to come into school a little later on Tuesday morning.\u00a0 We have provisionally booked places for all junior pupils and therefore need to know if any children will <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> be able to attend.\u00a0 Parents may remember our Year 6 leavers talking about this event as a fantastic opportunity that they really enjoyed!\u00a0 Please complete the slip at the end of the newsletter and return it in the Friday bag on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 &amp;
