{"id":3285,"date":"2021-06-11T12:50:56","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T12:50:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/?p=3285"},"modified":"2021-06-11T12:50:59","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T12:50:59","slug":"11th-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/index.php\/2021\/06\/11\/11th-june\/","title":{"rendered":"11th June"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We have welcomed a new family to school this week.\u00a0 Scarlett has joined us in year 3 and Jasmine in year 1, we hope they will be really happy here.<\/p>\n<p>Year 6 pupils received their Leaver\u2019s Hoodie today, they are wonderful and the children all look really smart in them.\u00a0 Mark Norris\u2019s company, Pierra has kindly covered the cost.\u00a0 The children can wear them to school for the rest of the term if they wish.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/><\/strong>The situation with regard to Covid19 in school has not changed. Please continue to pick up and drop off at your allotted times and to wear a mask whilst on the school grounds. Please remind anyone else picking up on your behalf. We are still working hard in school to keep your children and our staff safe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reception<\/strong> children have been designing their own number blocks thinking about tens and ones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Years 1 and 2<\/strong> have started to learn about wombats.\u00a0 They have written some acrostic poems and used sculpting skills to make playdough wombats.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Infant Star Award<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Eric<\/strong> \u2013 Fantastic information writing about jungle animals and for being a kind friend.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infant Certificates<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Ronnie<\/strong> \u2013 Creating a detailed zebra painting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Daisy<\/strong> <strong>&amp; Daniel<\/strong> \u2013 working together to write a super acrostic poem about a wombat.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lower Juniors<\/strong> have hit the ground running this week with their new topic \u2013 Europe.\u00a0 They have been looking at the different countries in Europe and finding out a little bit more about them.\u00a0 The children have enjoyed looking at the globe, doing quizzes, using the computers to do research and completing jigsaws!\u00a0 Ask them about what they have learnt and share your knowledge with them too!<\/p>\n<p>Maths has been a continuation of fractions and also starting to look at tenths and hundredths for some of the year 4s.\u00a0 They will be continuing this for a few more weeks.\u00a0 Please support your child by encouraging them to go on TT Rockstars; a little everyday would be fantastic.<\/p>\n<p>Their house points challenge has begun again.\u00a0 They are aiming for over 100 points this half term.\u00a0 Completing their homework, reading regularly at home, going on TT Rockstars and generally putting in lots of effort in class will most definitely get them there for the treat at the end of term.\u00a0 Thank you for supporting your child at home to help them get to their target.\u00a0 Mrs Cook.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 3 star of the week \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Megan <\/strong>\u2013 for always having a positive attitude to learning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 4 star of the week \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Antoni <\/strong>&#8211; for working hard to improve his writing and reading more regularly at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upper Juniors<\/strong> will be taking part in a variety of events this half-term, including a rounders tournament and a trip to Warton Crag.\u00a0 The Victorians topic will continue and they will be looking at Street Children and the formation of Dr Barnados.\u00a0 A walk around Hornby is planned to discover the characteristics of Victorian Houses along the Main Street.\u00a0 For science they will be exploring the forces of friction and air resistance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 star of the week<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Daisy <\/strong>\u2013 literacy, brilliant headlines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 6 star of the week<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Nell<\/strong> \u2013 great contribution to lessons.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We are really disappointed to have to tell you that the junior\u2019s trip to Tower Wood on Thursday 17<sup>th<\/sup> June has been cancelled. We only found out at the beginning of the week that the centre does not have sufficient instructors to be able to accommodate us.
