{"id":2774,"date":"2019-05-24T13:45:29","date_gmt":"2019-05-24T13:45:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/?p=2774"},"modified":"2019-05-24T13:45:29","modified_gmt":"2019-05-24T13:45:29","slug":"24th-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/index.php\/2019\/05\/24\/24th-may\/","title":{"rendered":"24th May"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Junior pupils had two more visits from \u2018Inspirational Women\u2019 this week.\u00a0 Janet Holmes talked about her job with the Air Ambulance and Dr Juliet McGrattan about encouraging people to exercise.\u00a0 Pupils will be writing about these visits ready for the church service on 26<sup>th<\/sup> June.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope we get some nice sunny, warm weather next week, so we can all enjoy the half-term break!<\/p>\n<p><strong>After-School Cycling Club.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jill Eccleston\u2019s Cycling Club will start on <strong><em>Monday 3<sup>rd<\/sup> June<\/em><\/strong> (the first day back after half-term).\u00a0 Pupils who have signed up for it will need to bring their bike and a helmet into school.\u00a0 Please ensure that the bike and helmet are carefully checked, Jill is unable to offer bike maintenance during session and if tyres are flat or brakes don\u2019t work the child will miss out.\u00a0 Both brakes must be working, chain should be well oiled and moving freely, tyres well pumped up, steering tight and straight and finally suitable gloves for being outside would be useful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ascension Day Service in Church.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On <strong><em>Wednesday 5<sup>th<\/sup> June<\/em><\/strong> the whole school will be walking over to St Margaret\u2019s Church for the 10am Ascension Day Service.\u00a0 As always parents, grandparents, other relatives and friends are very welcome to join us.\u00a0 An information sheet is enclosed in today\u2019s Friday bag.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 Flood Awareness Day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We plan to take the year 5 pupils to the University of Cumbria on <strong><em>Thursday 6<sup>th<\/sup> June <\/em><\/strong>for a special event focusing on flooding issues in the Lune Valley.\u00a0 It would be much appreciated if a parent or two would volunteer to help transport the pupils.\u00a0 A packed lunch will be required on the day. A detailed information sheet is included in their Friday bag.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior After-School Kwik Cricket Club.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The cricket coach has offered to continue this club after half-term.\u00a0 It will run again on Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30pm and will run on 5 Fridays, so the cost will be \u00a310 in total.\u00a0 Please complete the slip at the end of the newsletter if your child\/ren wish to take part.<\/p>\n<p>The coach will also continue to run the session between 2:15 and 2:45 for children in years 1 &amp; 2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Edinburgh Residential Parents\u2019 Information Session. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The year 5 &amp; 6 visit to Edinburgh is approaching fast!\u00a0 Copies of the information given out at the meeting for parents earlier this week is included in today\u2019s Friday bag for anyone who was unable to attend.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bills, Bills<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thank you to everyone who has paid their dinner bills online or sent payment into school.\u00a0 We really appreciate outstanding amounts being kept to a minimum and will send weekly reminders to families with two weeks or more outstanding.<\/p>\n<p>It is now possible to pay for the Early Morning Club using the online system too.\u00a0 All sessions used since the start of this term are now recorded online.\u00a0 Password reminders for all infant children have been sent today. Please pay any outstanding balances for Early Morning Club.\u00a0 It is still possible to pay on the day or in bulk by cash or cheque, if this suits you best.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dental Health Survey.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our school has been selected to take part in a national dental survey of 5-year-olds.\u00a0 Information regarding this is included in their Friday bag today if they are part of the survey.\u00a0 Please read and return the consent form on Monday after half-term.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parents Help Morning \u2013 Sat 15<sup>th<\/sup> June.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Parent help would be greatly appreciated at school on <strong><em>Saturday 15<sup>th<\/sup> June<\/em><\/strong>, with some tidying and general maintenance jobs.\u00a0 We intend to start from 9:30am onwards and be finished by 12noon.\u00a0 Well behaved, helpful children are always welcome to come along too!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 6 Leavers Do \u2013 Monday 24<sup>th<\/sup> June.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mrs Cottam has organised for the year 6 leavers to have a fun session at Soul Bowl in Morecambe on <strong><em>Monday 24<sup>th<\/sup> June.<\/em><\/strong> They will bowl from 4:30 to 5:30pm and then have pasta or pizza in the restaurant. The cost of the evening is \u00a310 per pupil.\u00a0 We really hope everyone will be able to come.\u00a0 Please complete the slip at the end of this newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gardening Club<\/strong> will continue after school on Wednesdays after half-term.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PTA NEWS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have rescheduled the date of the Summer Fair due to a clash with Caton Gala. Due to numerous clashes on Saturdays throughout June we are trying something new this year and are holding the summer fair after school on <strong><em>Friday 21<sup>st<\/sup> June<\/em><\/strong>. We will be holding a planning meeting to discuss the fair in more detail after school in the playground on <strong><em>Tuesday 4<sup>th<\/sup> June<\/em><\/strong>, weather permitting. (In the case of bad weather the meeting will be held in school at 3pm instead.) If you are unable to attend the meeting but would like to help, either with organisation or on the day, please put a note in your Friday bag or speak to one of the committee members. Nearer the time of the fair we will be looking for donations of prizes suitable for the tombola and raffle, so if you have any unwanted chocolates, smellies, alcohol or anything else suitable, please put it to one side for us, we would be very grateful. More details on the fair will be issued via the newsletter following the next PTA meeting.<\/p>\n<p>We have provisionally set a date of <strong><em>6<sup>th<\/sup> July<\/em><\/strong> for the Family Bingo night, which is more of an end of term social rather than a fundraiser.
