{"id":2558,"date":"2018-11-02T14:44:53","date_gmt":"2018-11-02T14:44:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/?p=2558"},"modified":"2018-11-02T14:44:53","modified_gmt":"2018-11-02T14:44:53","slug":"2nd-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/index.php\/2018\/11\/02\/2nd-november\/","title":{"rendered":"2nd November"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>We hope everyone had a lovely half term holiday and is ready for the busy lead up to Christmas in school.\u00a0 We have tried to include as many of the important dates as possible in this newsletter to help you plan!\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Topic Information.\u00a0 <\/strong>Topic information sheets for this half-term are included in the Friday bag for all infant children.\u00a0 Juniors are focusing on World War One and War poets, material changes and sound in science and volcanoes in art.\u00a0 Parents can always view the curriculum plans on the school website as well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Royal British Legion.<\/strong>\u00a0 We are supporting the Poppy Appeal again this year, children can bring in 20p for a poppy or 50p for reflectors, pencil sharpeners, pencils, rulers or rubbers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boxes of Hope. <\/strong>The boxes will be collected next week, so if anyone wants to do a last minute box it just needs to be dropped off at school by <strong>Monday 5<sup>th<\/sup> November<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fitness Fun Club<\/strong><strong>.\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Jill Eccleston will be running a Fitness Fun Club after school on Mondays starting next week <\/strong><strong><em>Monday 5<sup>th<\/sup> November<\/em><\/strong><strong>.\u00a0 The club is open to all children in school and will be free of charge.\u00a0 It will run from <\/strong><strong><em>3:30 to 5pm<\/em><\/strong><strong> every week.\u00a0 Jill is a British Athletics and British Cycling accredited coach who aims to coach skills through a variety of fun games and activities.\u00a0 The club will be held outside whenever possible, so children will need well-fitting trainers, tracksuit bottoms, t-shirt and outer top layer.\u00a0 Please complete the form at the end of the newsletter if your child would like to take part.\u00a0 The club will continue after Christmas should the pupils doing Sewing Club wish to join then.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Upper Junior Netball Competition.\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Five upper junior pupils will represent school at a cluster competition at Caton on <\/strong><strong><em>Wednesday 7<sup>th<\/sup> November<\/em><\/strong><strong>.\u00a0 A detailed information sheet is included in the bag for the pupils involved.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 5 &amp; 6 Residential.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 Thank you to all the parents who have returned the slip and deposit for the Edinburgh Trip in July.\u00a0 A copy of the original letter from Mr Stafford-Roberts is included in the bag today for any families still to reply.\u00a0 We really need to know next week if your child\/ren will be going, so we can confirm numbers with the Youth Hostel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Infant Class R.E.\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Mrs Barker would like any children who have been Christened to bring <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>items that remind them of this celebration into school please, examples being candle, certificate or photographs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ukulele Lessons.\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Mrs Barker will run the sessions through November, the last one being on Tuesday 27<sup>th<\/sup> November.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Drop Off\/Pick Up.\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Please could we remind everyone that children <\/strong><strong>should not<\/strong><strong> be dropped off or picked up from the staff car park.\u00a0 All pupils should come into school via the gate by the infant classroom. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PTA Race Night. <\/strong><strong>To help PTA plan for this event we would appreciate it if you would return the slip at the end of the newsletter to let us know if you are coming to this event.\u00a0 Please return slips on Monday!
