{"id":1984,"date":"2017-09-11T08:15:04","date_gmt":"2017-09-11T08:15:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/?p=1984"},"modified":"2017-09-11T08:15:04","modified_gmt":"2017-09-11T08:15:04","slug":"8th-september-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hornby.lancs.sch.uk\/index.php\/2017\/09\/11\/8th-september-17\/","title":{"rendered":"8th September 17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WELCOME BACK!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We hope you all had a lovely summer and that it is not now just a distant memory!\u00a0 This is unfortunately a fairly lengthy newsletter, but please try and read it, as it contains important information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baby News!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mrs Hamlett is pleased to announce that Ellis Joel Hamlett arrived at 1.40am on Saturday 19<sup>th<\/sup> August, weighing 6lb 4oz.\u00a0 She would like to thank infant parents for the beautiful flowers and generous boots voucher plus thanks for all other good wishes, cards and gifts received.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>NEW FACES\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our new reception children started on Tuesday, we welcome Ruby, James, Henry, Skye, Megan and Evie.\u00a0 Two new families have also joined the school, Sam and Ava Coop and Patch and Daniel Tucker.\u00a0 We are sure they will all be very happy here at Hornby St Margaret\u2019s!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday Bags<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We thought it might be useful to give our new families a brief explanation as to how newsletters, school visit details and other information are communicated. Each Friday, a bag will be sent home via your eldest child in school. This bag will contain a variety of information for you to read and, in some cases, act upon. Please empty your bag on receipt ready for returning back to school every Monday. You can use the bag to safely return any reply slips, completed forms and money, if any has been requested. <strong>Any money that you do send into school must be in a clearly marked envelope with your child\u2019s full name and what the money is for<\/strong>. It is important to ensure that your child knows to bring back and hand in their bags each Monday, especially if you have placed money inside.\u00a0 Thank you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Class Newsletters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Included in the Friday bag today is a newsletter from your child\/ren\u2019s class teacher giving information regarding the new school year.\u00a0 Junior parents, please note that Morecambe Football starts on <strong><em>Monday 11<sup>th<\/sup> Sept<\/em><\/strong>. for <strong><em>years 3&amp;4<\/em><\/strong> and swimming at Capernwray for <strong><em>years 3\/4\/5<\/em><\/strong> on <strong><em>Wednesday 20<sup>th<\/sup> Sept<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roald Dahl Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are planning a Roald Dahl Day on <strong><em>Wednesday 13<sup>th<\/sup> September<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Pupils can come to school dressed as their favourite character from one of his books or alternatively just bring their favourite Roald Dahl book with them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Westmorland County Show<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The whole school will be going to the Westmorland Show on <strong><em>Thursday 14<sup>th<\/sup> September<\/em><\/strong> for the day.\u00a0 We will leave school just after 9am and return in time for the normal end of day, all pupils will need a packed lunch on the day.\u00a0 A detailed information sheet is included in the bag today.\u00a0 We appreciate that some families will be attending the show; if you would prefer your child\/ren to go with you as a family unit rather than as part of the school outing, please let Mrs Sharpe in the office know.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Forms, Forms<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At this time of year we have to send home a number of forms to check that we are holding all the correct information about our pupils.\u00a0 Enclosed in the bags this week is a form titled <strong>Parental\/Carer Consent and Medical Information Form for Educational Visits and Adventurous Activities.<\/strong>\u00a0 This form is for the whole academic year and will cover local and low risk visits made by the children, for example, museum visits, local school visits, local walks and days out.\u00a0 For anything else, such as residential or farm visits, we will seek further permission from you.\u00a0 Although you are only completing one form for all the low risk activities we will send home an information sheet each time to keep you informed of the activities.<\/p>\n<p>Also included in the bag is a <strong>Data Collection Sheet<\/strong> for each child.\u00a0 This form has all the information we currently hold on the school database for your child(ren).\u00a0 It is important we have the most up-to-date information, so please do check it and return it either letting us know it is correct or with any necessary amendments.\u00a0 Do also let us know if anything changes during the year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meeting for Reception Children Parents <\/strong><br \/>\nParents of reception children are invited to a meeting to explain the curriculum and approaches to reading \/ writing.\u00a0 This meeting is for parents only and will take place on <strong>Monday 2<sup>nd<\/sup> October at 5pm<\/strong>.\u00a0 Please return the slip attached to the newsletter to let us know if you are able to attend.\u00a0 Many thanks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Praise Assembly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Parents are invited to attend our Friday Praise Assembly at 3pm each week, where we celebrate the children\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Music Lessons<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Drum lessons started again this week. Piano and recorder will start next week and Ukulele in October.\u00a0 If any pupils would like to start music lessons please contact the office, we can even try and find teachers for lessons we don\u2019t currently offer!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Library<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mrs Fisher and Mrs Rosie will be running the school library on a Thursday afternoon this year; infants and juniors will alternate, so books will be kept for two weeks.\u00a0 We will start with juniors on <strong><em>Thursday 21<sup>st<\/sup> September<\/em><\/strong>, if children have a book at home that they are particularly enjoying they can bring that in on library day instead of choosing one from school.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gardening Club<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We really need some more parents, grandparents or friends of school to volunteer to help tend the school garden.\u00a0 Mrs Fisher has kindly agreed to keep running gardening club on a Thursday lunchtime this year, but will only have a small number of children unless she gets more help.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>After School Clubs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Miss Allen will run her Art Club again after school on Wednesdays, it will start with juniors up to half term. Mrs Rosie (Zara Metcalfe\u2019s Mum) will run a Sewing Club after school on Thursdays, this will initially be for year 5 &amp; 6 pupils.\u00a0 Please complete the slips at the end of the newsletter if your children would like to take part.\u00a0 Both clubs will run from 3:30-4:30pm starting next week, please pick the children up promptly at 4.30pm from the main entrance at the front of school.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>School Dinners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cookie continues to offer all children lovely lunches, which are still fully funded for all infant children and excellent value at \u00a32.20 for juniors. We are always happy for children to try the meals and can be very flexible about the days they have them, just come and talk to us.\u00a0 Details of how to pay will follow in next few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Early Morning Club<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Early morning club continues to be available from 8.20am at a cost of \u00a31 per child per morning.\u00a0 The club is available to all children in the school, you can just turn up and pay on the day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>School Admissions September 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lancashire County Councils online application system is now open for application for 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The website is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancashire.gov.uk\/schools\">www.lancashire.gov.uk\/schools<\/a> .\u00a0 The closing date for applications is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Secondary school applications &#8211; <strong>31<sup>st<\/sup> October 2017<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Primary school applications \u2013 <strong>15<sup>th<\/sup> January 2018<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this week\u2019s bag, parents of year 6 children will find a flyer about secondary applications.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>QES Information Evening <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Parents of year 6 children are invited to attend QES information evenings for prospective 2018 year 7 entrants on either <strong>Wednesday 13<sup>th<\/sup> September <\/strong>(Cumbria\/N Yorks) <strong>Thursday 21<sup>st<\/sup> September <\/strong>(Lancashire) at 6.30pm.
