We are aiming for every pupil to achieve attendance levels of 96%, but all pupils should strive to achieve 100% attendance if they can. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We appreciate that there may be occasions when a pupil\u2019s attendance is affected due to exceptional circumstances. In these cases, support and advice is always available from school. Children can still attend school with minor illness such as a cold or tummy ache and school will contact you if they become too ill to remain in school. If you are unsure, please visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school\/\">https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school\/<\/a>&nbsp;or contact school, your doctor or pharmacist for advice.&nbsp; Please phone school every morning that your child is absent so that their attendance records are kept accurate and up to date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leck-st-peters.lancs.sch.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/ukhsa-should-i-keep-my-child-off-school-a3-poster-v1.353346032.pdf\">ukhsa-should-i-keep-my-child-off-school-a3-poster-v1.353346032.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens if we are worried about your child\u2019s school attendance?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">If attendance dips below 90% this is categorised as persistent absence by the DFE. This will have a negative impact on your child\u2019s wellbeing and academic progress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>\u2018In 2018\/19, just 40% of persistently absent (PA) children in KS2 achieved expected KS2 standards, compared with 84% of pupils who regularly attended school.\u2019&nbsp;<\/strong><em>(Attendance Communications Toolkit for Schools. DfE 2024)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>\u2018Regular school attendance can facilitate positive peer relationships, which is a protective factor for mental health and wellbeing.\u2019<\/strong>&nbsp;<em>(Mental Health and Attendance at School. Cambridge University Press 2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">If we have concerns about your child\u2019s attendance, we will contact you so that we can offer support and work together to ensure your child attends school regularly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Punctuality<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is really important that your child attends school on time. If you wish to take your child out of school, during term time, it is important to discuss this with us as much in advance as possible so we can guide you through the process.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">However, where absence is unauthorised, it could lead to further action being taken including a penalty notice being issued.
