2nd March

Parents Meetings

If anyone still needs to book a time for parents meetings next Monday or Tuesday, please pop in and sign up or give us a ring and we will try and find you a convenient time.  Teachers really value this opportunity to talk with parents.

World Book Day

The children all looked fantastic in their animal costumes for World Book Day, we raised at least £39 for Animal Care. Thank you for your support.

National Science and Engineering Week Talk

QES have invited our year 6 pupils to a talk by Nick Cox on Tuesday 6th March.  Nick is an Arctic explorer with many years’ experience and will be talking about his explorations in the Arctic.  Information sheets are included in the relevant bags.

Junior Swimming

The swimming teachers will be doing lifesaving with different groups of children over the next few weeks, so please can all swimmers bring a pair of light pyjamas or a t-shirt and shorts each week as well as their usual swimming kit.

Upper Junior Caving Days

Our year 5 & 6 children will be experiencing an introduction to caving either on Monday 12th March or Monday 19th March.  These sessions will be led by an experienced instructor from Tower Wood Outdoor Centre, along with Mr Stafford-Roberts and will take place at a cave in the Yorkshire Dales chosen by the instructor.  Parents of those children involved will find a full information sheet in this week’s bag, please pay particular attention to the day your child is going and the detailed requirements on the kit list.  There is no charge for these sessions, school will be funding the full cost.  If any parent has any queries or concerns, please do speak to Mr Stafford- Roberts.

Lancaster Music Festival – Juniors

Mrs Barker and the juniors are enjoying practising for the Music Festival. This event at Lancaster Town Hall on Wednesday 21st March at 7pm is the culmination of the whole terms work in music, so we would really like all the children to attend.  Please complete the slip at the end of the newsletter to indicate if you will be attending and how many tickets you would ideally like.  Tickets are unfortunately in very short supply this year, due to the significant increase in children participating; so initially we are offering one per child and will start a list of extra tickets required on a first come first served basis.  Tickets are £4, we will collect the payment once we know exactly how many tickets we are issuing.

Reminder – Bikeability Training

All of our year 5 and 6 pupils will be undertaking Bikeability training on Monday 26th March and Tuesday 27th March.  Last week parents of participating children had a letter regarding the training, an ‘M Check’ to ensure your child’s bike is roadworthy, plus a consent form.  If you have not completed and returned the consent form yet, please do so to enable your child to take part.

Payment for Junior School Meals

It’s good to see that an increasing number of parents are using the new schoolmoney system.  We are of course still happy to receive payment by either cheque or cash as well. If you are struggling with the online system please do let us know.  We would be grateful if parents paying online could try not to let the balance owing exceed £30 please.   For parents wanting to pay for all of this half term the total cost is £63.80.

PTA Jumble Sale

The date for the Spring Jumble Sale has been set for Saturday 24th March at 10am. So if you’re having a spring clear out of clothes, please put them to one side for us and drop off at school from Wednesday 21st March.
