WELCOME BACK!

We hope you all had a lovely summer and that it is not now just a distant memory!  This is unfortunately a fairly lengthy newsletter, but please try and read it, as it contains important information.

Baby News!

Mrs Hamlett is pleased to announce that Ellis Joel Hamlett arrived at 1.40am on Saturday 19th August, weighing 6lb 4oz.  She would like to thank infant parents for the beautiful flowers and generous boots voucher plus thanks for all other good wishes, cards and gifts received.

NEW FACES…

Our new reception children started on Tuesday, we welcome Ruby, James, Henry, Skye, Megan and Evie.  Two new families have also joined the school, Sam and Ava Coop and Patch and Daniel Tucker.  We are sure they will all be very happy here at Hornby St Margaret’s!

Friday Bags

We thought it might be useful to give our new families a brief explanation as to how newsletters, school visit details and other information are communicated. Each Friday, a bag will be sent home via your eldest child in school. This bag will contain a variety of information for you to read and, in some cases, act upon. Please empty your bag on receipt ready for returning back to school every Monday. You can use the bag to safely return any reply slips, completed forms and money, if any has been requested. Any money that you do send into school must be in a clearly marked envelope with your child’s full name and what the money is for. It is important to ensure that your child knows to bring back and hand in their bags each Monday, especially if you have placed money inside.  Thank you.

Class Newsletters

Included in the Friday bag today is a newsletter from your child/ren’s class teacher giving information regarding the new school year.  Junior parents, please note that Morecambe Football starts on Monday 11th Sept. for years 3&4 and swimming at Capernwray for years 3/4/5 on Wednesday 20th Sept.

Roald Dahl Day

We are planning a Roald Dahl Day on Wednesday 13th September.  Pupils can come to school dressed as their favourite character from one of his books or alternatively just bring their favourite Roald Dahl book with them.

Westmorland County Show

The whole school will be going to the Westmorland Show on Thursday 14th September for the day.  We will leave school just after 9am and return in time for the normal end of day, all pupils will need a packed lunch on the day.  A detailed information sheet is included in the bag today.  We appreciate that some families will be attending the show; if you would prefer your child/ren to go with you as a family unit rather than as part of the school outing, please let Mrs Sharpe in the office know.

Forms, Forms

At this time of year we have to send home a number of forms to check that we are holding all the correct information about our pupils.  Enclosed in the bags this week is a form titled Parental/Carer Consent and Medical Information Form for Educational Visits and Adventurous Activities.  This form is for the whole academic year and will cover local and low risk visits made by the children, for example, museum visits, local school visits, local walks and days out.  For anything else, such as residential or farm visits, we will seek further permission from you.  Although you are only completing one form for all the low risk activities we will send home an information sheet each time to keep you informed of the activities.

Also included in the bag is a Data Collection Sheet for each child.  This form has all the information we currently hold on the school database for your child(ren).  It is important we have the most up-to-date information, so please do check it and return it either letting us know it is correct or with any necessary amendments.  Do also let us know if anything changes during the year.

Meeting for Reception Children Parents
Parents of reception children are invited to a meeting to explain the curriculum and approaches to reading / writing.  This meeting is for parents only and will take place on Monday 2nd October at 5pm.  Please return the slip attached to the newsletter to let us know if you are able to attend.  Many thanks.

Praise Assembly

Parents are invited to attend our Friday Praise Assembly at 3pm each week, where we celebrate the children’s work.

Music Lessons

Drum lessons started again this week. Piano and recorder will start next week and Ukulele in October.  If any pupils would like to start music lessons please contact the office, we can even try and find teachers for lessons we don’t currently offer!

Library

Mrs Fisher and Mrs Rosie will be running the school library on a Thursday afternoon this year; infants and juniors will alternate, so books will be kept for two weeks.  We will start with juniors on Thursday 21st September, if children have a book at home that they are particularly enjoying they can bring that in on library day instead of choosing one from school.

Gardening Club

We really need some more parents, grandparents or friends of school to volunteer to help tend the school garden.  Mrs Fisher has kindly agreed to keep running gardening club on a Thursday lunchtime this year, but will only have a small number of children unless she gets more help.

After School Clubs

Miss Allen will run her Art Club again after school on Wednesdays, it will start with juniors up to half term. Mrs Rosie (Zara Metcalfe’s Mum) will run a Sewing Club after school on Thursdays, this will initially be for year 5 & 6 pupils.  Please complete the slips at the end of the newsletter if your children would like to take part.  Both clubs will run from 3:30-4:30pm starting next week, please pick the children up promptly at 4.30pm from the main entrance at the front of school.

School Dinners

Cookie continues to offer all children lovely lunches, which are still fully funded for all infant children and excellent value at £2.20 for juniors. We are always happy for children to try the meals and can be very flexible about the days they have them, just come and talk to us.  Details of how to pay will follow in next few weeks.

Early Morning Club

Early morning club continues to be available from 8.20am at a cost of £1 per child per morning.  The club is available to all children in the school, you can just turn up and pay on the day.
